What is Federation
Federation is when all 6 Australian colonies united to form the Commonwealth of Australia.
Henry Parkes
On the 24 of october 1889 Henry Parkes, a politician at the time, gave a speech to the whole of Tenterfield school of Arts. Although politicians have been talking about federation Henry Parkes was the first politician ever to talk about federation publicly.
Henry Parkes said that it's time to unite these colonies into a federal bond.

Western Australia was the last to join the federation.one of the main factors of this was because they were so far away from the other colonies.But they decided to join because the other colonies promised them that they would build a railway to perth.
Federation
On January 1st 1901 all Australian colonies had voted yes for federation. Australia united to be the Commonwealth of Australia. They then decided to have a federal government. A federal government controls trade,currency,imagration,post,broadcasting,air travel. They also look after the whole of Australia.
