Each day of the week students will give one fact that highlights Indigenous culture and then play a song  by an Indigenous artist.

We KICKED OFF NAIDOC WEEK  with:

A song  by John Farnham and Mitch Tambo. 

Tambo is a  Gamilaraay and  Birri Gubba  man and lives in   Melbourne.

Mitch translated the famous Aussie song into his Gamilaraay language.
Fact of the day -  
Rainbow Serpent   is renowned as the mythological god of the Indigenous  culture.

Song -  My Island Home

Artist -  Christine Anu
Info -  Christine Anu is a  Torres Strait Islander and was born on the 15th of March 1970.
She is a pop singer and has been Nominated for 17 ARIA awards .


Fact of the day - 
At the time of European occupation, there were over 700 different indigenous langauges and dialects spoken in Australia. Now, there are less than 250 still in use.

Artist -  Jess Mauboy

Info - 
Born and raised in QLD Mauboy  was originally afraid of showing aboriginal background, over time she became and more open about her culture.


Fact of the day -  They were the first peoples to leave the African Continent.

Artist -  Yothu Yindi

Info -   
Yothu Yindi   is an Australian musical group with Aboriginal and balanda (non-Aboriginal) members, formed in 1986 as a merger of two bands formed in 1985 – a White rock group called the Swamp Jockeys and an unnamed Aboriginal folk group.


Fact of the day - 
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Isalnders have been inhabiting this continent for at least 60,000 years making it the oldest civilization.

Info -  Electric Fields are an Aboriginal Electronic music duo made up of vocalist Zacharia Fielding and keyboard player and producer Michael Ross.


Fact of the day - 
Aboriginal Arts and Culture can be found in some of the most incredible locations. Lake Mungo in western New South Wales is a site of great Aboriginal and archaeological importance, containing material dated to at least 33,000 years ago. Aboriginal Arts and Culture

Artist -  Baker Boy

Info -   Baker Boy was born in Darwn and grew up in Arnehm LAnd, NT, Baker Boy's totem is the olive python. ThE Gela Boy is now 24 years old and is a dancer, rapper and  actor. He   is a  Yolngu man .


Move was created as a tribute to the women in Danzal's life

NAIDOC is an acronym that stands for 'National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee'  Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

We will use the letters to raise awareness of some of the many aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in this country

 The Noongar spelt 
Noongah, Nyungar, Nyoongar, Nyoongah, Nyungah, Nyugah, Yunga
are Aboriginal Australian  peoples who live in the south-west corner of Western Australia, from Geraldton on the west coast to Esperance on the south coast. Noongar country is the land occupied by 14 different groups: 

Amangu, Ballardong, Yued, Kaneang, Koreng, Mineng, Njakinjaki, Njunga, Pibelmen, Pindjarup, Wardandi, Whadjuk, Wiilman and Wudjari.
