Half Year - half Mara BLOG
Last week over 40 people participated in the HYHM, what a major success! Lots of school kids were involved but also lots of people from Perth and around the world took it upon themselves to have a bit of fun whilst gaining valuable fitness upgrades and helping the Year 6 with data collection and manipulation.
We chose our 10 Sock It Up Winners as well as analysing all participants, the mode of transport they used the time they took and what they saw along the way. It was a great way to end the term.
Check out one of the side by side graph we created.
A graph to show which modes of transport each age category chose in the HYHM
We also put a thank you message in this week's virtual assembly.
Congrats to Woodlands Pupils:
Ethan and Ethan
Matilda in Room 12
Huge congrats to Miss Hunt in Room 1
and Rebekkah Blake and Heather Uren (both WA winners).
Well this is it!
After a huge term of learning conversions of measurements, mapping skills, which foods you should be eating to keep your body healthy, timetables to get me home and a whole heap of running and walking. The day of the Half Year - Half Mara is here.
I'm starting early to avoid the rain which is the beauty of this event. Even though 8am is the listed start time, it doesn't matter where you do the distance or when you start.
I'll be inputting my data into the form for the year 6 crew to work through next week, I hope you will do the same and take a picture or two to celebrate the moment!
Thanks for the time you give up to take part in this and we look forward to seeing how you go!
Huge thanks also to Sock it Up who have kindly given a pair of socks to each of my students and donated several prizes to lucky entrants.

See you on the other side...21.1km to go!
21km is a long way to run without any company.
The Year 6 class have put together a playlist to ensure you have some brilliant beats whilst you are running the half marathon.
Check their individual playlist suggestions in the comments below and click the button to access the Spotify playlist.
As this is an event to help improve your overall health and fitness , it would be remiss of us to not post about your diet over the next couple of weeks in the lead up to the Half Mara!
dIn our Year 6 health class we learnt to identify main nutrients from each of the five
food groups and worked to understand the role of different nutrients in the body.
Below in the comments the students have posted their food plan for a 'healthy day of eating'
They used the format:
They also used the links: www.eatforhealth.gov.au/food-essentials/how-much-do-we-need-each-day/serve-sizes
and the slides to helpe them
We are delighted to have a supporter join the event!
Sock it up socks are designed exclusively in Australia and made with the finest quality combed cotton, their socks are so much more than just a pretty face (or foot?), they're made to go the distance. Featuring a comfortable, elasticised top and extra long design from the ankle to stop your sock from slipping down to where it doesn't belong, you'll be glad you let us walk a mile in your shoes.
But be warned, though their range of socks are fully machine washable, they are not impervious to the Bermuda Triangle of missing socks that exists somewhere in the back of your dryer - they suggest adopting a buddy system to ensure no soles are left behind.
